Welcome to St. John School—a Catholic TK-8 school located in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco.
We strive to educate each student through service, compassion and high academic standards, inspiring them to become critical thinkers and courageous leaders. We offer year-round enrollment and invite you to schedule a tour. We’ve created a unique environment that encourages families to be involved in their child’s education—because at St. John School, community matters.
Philosophy of Spirituality
We are a community of faith that nourishes each child’s spiritual, academic, physical, social and emotional growth. The school instills the Ursuline tradition of charity and spirit into every student. Non-Catholic students are welcome and their beliefs are respected. All students are encouraged to share their thoughts throughout the curriculum and are welcomed to participate in religious ceremonies as their comfort level allows. Our Parish is located in the neighborhood close to the school at 19 St. Mary’s Avenue, San Francisco CA 94112.
Sister Shirley, who is a graduate of Holy Angels Schools in Colma, attended St. John Ursuline High School in San Francisco and also served as principal, has been a member of the faculty at St. John School since 2004. She possesses an undergraduate degree in English from Marillac College in Missouri and a graduate degree in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho.
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation
St. John was recently awarded the highest-available (6-year) accreditation. WASC accreditation is a dual-purpose process: Schools must be worthy of the trust placed in them to provide high-quality learning opportunities and clearly demonstrate continual self-improvement.
St. John Catholic School is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA). WCEA accredits Catholic elementary and secondary schools in nine western states (26 (arch) dioceses) and the US Territory of Guam. WCEA co-accredits and is in partnership with three Regional agencies (WASC, NAAS, NCA) and two private agencies (CAIS and HAIS). WCEA began in 1957 in San Francisco and has a long and successful history of assisting school improvement through the accreditation process.
