Thank you to our many St. John School parent volunteers!
We offer St. John students wonderful extra-curricular experiences through the help and support of our dedicated and creative parent community! Parents and other family members provide a minimum of 40 service hours to the school each year. These adults bring their unique skills, including gardening, construction expertise, event management, and classroom support. Our Athletic Department benefits from parents as coaches and event support. And fundraising events like our Halloween Fair, Crab Feed, and School Olympics are possible because of enthusiastic service from St. John School’s parents and guardians.
San Francisco Archdiocese Safe Environment Programs
St. John School gladly adheres to the San Francisco Archdiocese Safe Environment program. If you volunteer in any capacity with the students you must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese using the LiveScan system and complete the Archdiocese VIRTUS Training program. For the security and well-being of the students, there are no exceptions.
Please create an account on Virtus prior to getting fingerprinted to ensure the most streamlined certification.
VIRTUS Training
You must complete the VIRTUS Training program before volunteering. This is a free child-protection online training offered by and required by the Archdiocese for all volunteers. Before volunteering please bring a VIRTUS Training Certificate of Completion to the school office.
Steps for completing VIRTUS Training
1. Go to https://www.virtusonline.org
2. Select: First Time Registrant
3. Begin the registration process
4. Select: San Francisco (Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo Counties) (Archdiocese)
5. Follow prompts to complete the training.
For more information, download the VIRTUS Training Online Instructions
LiveScan
You may obtain the necessary LiveScan form here, at the school office, or on SchoolSpeak. Take the completed form to a LiveScan location. They will receive your form and take your fingerprints. Most locations require an appointment. Background checks may take several weeks to complete so it is best to plan ahead for field trips and volunteer opportunities. To find the nearest LiveScan locations visit www.oag.ca.gov.
Contact the school office if you have questions regarding the LiveScan process or Virtus Training.
Procedure for Entering/Exiting Campus
To enter the building for any reason other than to pick up or drop off your child, you must check in with the front office, sign in the Visitor’s Log and obtain a Visitor’s badge. Please also sign out before leaving the building.
Presence on Campus
The school is best served when your time at the school is for a specified time performing a specified task. Being a volunteer does not give you the freedom to visit classrooms while you are here. Unplanned visits can be a distraction to both teachers and students, which can result in a loss of educational time. Our commitment to our students is all of our top priority!
We welcome the time you give to the school. We appreciate your generosity and your attention to our students’ well-being.
