When you say “Uniform”…?

St. John School’s uniform dress code is similar for all grades but does vary as the students rise. See below for a detailed list. Certain uniform pieces must be purchased at the Dennis Uniform store, either online or at the San Francisco location. For store information, check our Dennis Uniform page.

St. John families also have a robust “gently used” uniform hand-me-down program. All enrolled families are invited to pick up extra uniform pieces, at the school, August 13th and August 17th, 10am – 2pm each day. This is a great opportunity to pick up extra uniform clothing at no cost!

What school supplies do I need to buy?

School supply lists for all classes are posted on SchoolSpeak. Click on the school logo and then find your student’s class under the dropdown menu labeled “Group”. All information specific to your student’s class will be found this way throughout the year.

Where can I learn about St. John team sports?

St. John fields team sports for girls and boys throughout the academic year. Coach Trevor, St. John’s Athletic Director, sends informational emails throughout the year as sign-ups for new sports/teams become available. For general information about St. John’s team sports visit our Team Sports page.

Parent tip: If you’re interested in coaching any team sports, Coach Trevor would love to hear from you. If you aren’t able to coach but want to support the teams and athletic department, talk to Coach Trevor about helping with the snack bar during on-site games.

How do I complete my Volunteer Hours?

We recommend you start by attending PTG meetings. These are held monthly, currently over zoom. PTG meetings are the best way to stay informed about school events and volunteer opportunities. PTG attendance also counts as volunteer hours!

Parent tip: It is helpful if parents complete service hours as early in the academic year as they are able. This ensures that school events are supported year-round.

Volunteer hours can be completed through:

  • serving at scheduled school community and fundraising events (Halloween Carnival, Fall Dinner/Dance/Student Art Auction, Christmas Craft Fair, Book Fair, Crab Feed, Fun Run, etc.).
  • volunteering to supervise recess.
  • volunteering to assist with traffic direction during drop off and pick up.
  • volunteering in a class by reaching out to your student’s teachers.
  • donating needed materials to the school ($20 value = 1 hour).
  • attending PTG meetings.
  • volunteering to help with event planning.
  • serving as class parents or other PTG positions.

If you notice a service need or opportunity at the school (garden work, special projects, grant writing, etc.), come to a PTG meeting or contact the PTG president for help moving your idea forward.

What is the VIRTUS training & background check, and do I really need them to volunteer?

Yes. St. John School strictly adheres to the San Francisco Archdiocese Safe Environment program. If you volunteer in any capacity with the students you must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese using the LiveScan fingerprinting and background check system. You must also complete the VIRTUS child-protection online training program provided by the Archdiocese. For the security and well-being of the students, there are no exceptions. For more information, instructions, and forms, visit our Volunteering at St. John School page.

Parent tip: Complete this process as soon as possible so you are able to volunteer when the opportunity presents. The background check may take a few weeks to complete.
